1928: Chrysler bought the successful Dodge brothers’ automobile and truck company and began to sell Dodge vehicles.
1936: In a short amount of time, Chrysler became one of the most successful automakers, achieving second-place position in U.S. industry sales.
1955: Chrysler created its own luxury subdivision of cars: “Imperial.”
1971: The Imperial division was melded back into Chrysler, after coming out with new models every 2 – 3 years.
1987: Chrysler purchased the Jeep brand, focused on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and began to sell Jeep models.
1990s – Throughout this time period, ownership and the official name of the Chrysler Company changed multiple times, as new cars were continually developed.
2000s – Chrysler suffered under the Great Recession along with the rest of the industry, eventually ending up again on top of the game, when the Grand Cherokee was named the most award-winning SUV ever.
Today – Chrysler is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, who has an astonishingly strong vehicle lineup.
